More Snow and I Traveled South

Thursday


Up early hoping to clean the gutters.  Had my oatmeal and looked out, its raining and cold.  So decided to work on some things in the house.  Washed the towels and decided to run the CAT 5 cable to extend the home network to the media center.  This involved running cable from my desk in the bedroom, down into the basement, above the suspended ceiling and finally up into the media cabinet.

All went well

 It took a while but all went well.  I did stop for lunch and a quick trip up to court, to do some paperwork.
FedEx came and delivered the new switches so I plugged the cables into them and got green lights.  A quick test with the computer and all is working

Then I moved on and started the closet project.

This is the closet system we put together from what was left at the Lowes that is closing.  I pre assembled what I could and tomorrow we hope to get it installed.

Then I was off to Warsaw for training and a Magistrates meeting.  I went a little early to check out the new CAD system in the 911 center.

And this is what I came home to.

Second snow of the year.

Yep more snow.  There was even more on the hilltops coming home.  It was snowing hard and some of the flakes were as big as Silver Dollars.  Actually it was quite pretty.  I had plans to move a couch and table tomorrow and that plan has changed.  Also am still planning to take the motorhome and put it in storage.  If the roads are wet and if they salt the roads I will delay doing that also.

Bonnie was over to her parents and got home just after I did.  She brought an Apple pie home with her.  Sorry no picture as we ate most of it.  Thats about it for tonight.




Friday

Today is Veterans Day, thanks to all that have served and are still serving.
The guys were coming before 9 to pick up some of the wood they cut so I was up and ready early.  The ground is still covered with snow from last night so it will be sloppy.  Well sure enough I ended up pulling them back up to the driveway with the tractor winch.  Alls well that ends well.

Then I started on putting the closet system together for Bonnie.  It took most of the day but between loads of wash I was able to get it all installed.

I finished after 2 and grabbed some lunch.  The changed and headed out to the motorhome about 3.  Today is the day to move it into storage.  First stop is for fuel.

I like the tanks full when it goes into storage.  48 gallons later, you do the math.

As you can tell it is wet and in some spots it was snowing.  Some of the roads were muddy from the farmers so it is a mess right now.  But no problems and it is in storage for the winter.  Bonnie picked me up after work and we drove through some hard snow again on the way home.  Not snowing here at the house so thats good.

Just had some pizza for supper and now a little TV and then calling it a night.  Bonnie is off to PA in the morning.

Tried to update the maps in my Garmin NUVI tonight but kept getting an error, will have to figure that out.


Saturday

Bonnie was up early and left before I got up.  She is on a bus trip with a group of ladies to the Grove City Outlets in Pennsylvania.  Won't be home until like 9pm tonight.

Well work called for Bonnie she may have to go to Warsaw when she gets home.  I headed up to the town building to finish any last minute work and also there is an Open House for the community.  We have a new plow truck and also a new storage building at the end of the building.  Then over to Attica to return a costume for Bonnie and take back some plugs to ACE that I bought and did not fit.

Then home to start packing for my trip to Florida.  Looked up lots of information and made sure I loaded it into the computer and iPhone.  I have not flown for awhile and learned how to go on line and print my boarding passes and pay for my one checked bag.  $25 to check a bag.  Never had to pay before.

Bonnie got home about 9 and headed to Warsaw, I offered to drive myself to the airport in the morning but she said she would rather take me.  So hope she gets back soon as I am ready for bed.  Hope I have everything packed.  Well she just pulled in bed time.


Sunday


We were up at our regular Sunday time 6:45, but then the routine changed.  Bonnie took me into the airport.  I am off to Panama City, Florida for a weeks vacation with my sister.  I had checked in yesterday on line and paid for the one bag I am checking.  The line was short at security, so far so good.  Then way out to gate 23 in plenty of time.  We boarded on time, the plane was completely full no empty seats.  They pushed us back from the gate and the captain started the first engine,  there was a loud pop from the engine.  The captain came on the PA.  He decided he should get the engine inspected to make sure there was no damage, he suspected computer stall.  Fine with me better safe than sorry, once we get in the air its too late.  Well the mechanic gave us the thumbs up and we were in the air only about a hour late.  So I made all my connections and my sister did too.  We met up in baggage claim and headed for the Marriott legends at Bay Point in our rented Toyota.

We decided to go over to the marina here at the resort for dinner.  We both had shrimp, the portions were large and we both were full.  Then we went out and did enough shopping so we have oatmeal and fruit for breakfast.  We are both beat so are hoping for a good nights sleep.

It is to be 79 tomorrow and we are signed up for a Swim with the Dolphins at the Gulf World Marine Park, so stay tuned.  Thats it for tonight.

Preparing for winter

Monday

I was up until early this morning working on setting up a Podomatic account to post our church service podcasts to.  I managed to get uploaded before I went to bed.

Up again early before Bonnie left for work and feel well rested.  Read my email and a couple blogs.  Then streamlined the process to convert, edit and upload the other file I had and uploaded it to Podomatic so now there are Two uploaded.  I am hoping we can do this weekly for people that miss church or the snowbirds and others that are away.

FedEx pulled in with a delivery of allergy pills just after 9, so far the Amazon Prime is working nicely.  We checked some things Bonnie uses on line last night and can save on them also.  Speaking of Amazon, my credit from Gazelle came via email today so I am happy with the transaction.  May sell them some other old electronics.

Then I headed outside about 11am to work on the list of things Bonnie gave me yesterday.  I was surprised to see my sister-in-law.  I had her on my calendar for tomorrow at 11, but she had today.  So change of plans, we worked on her books.  We entered the whole year in under 2 hours.  After a couple years she is pretty organized.  I help her file her taxes.  After she left I grabbed a quick lunch and headed out again.

I grabbed the mail and had letter from the Social Security Administration, what now.  GOOD NEWS!  They have been under paying me, about 20 bucks a month.  So they are going to make that up and increase my monthly check.  Starting next month.

I grabbed some tools and took the shelves down in Bonnie's closet.  The goal is to get it ready so she can paint it while I am gone and then the new closet system can go in.

I took the load to the garage.  I am hoping that I can use some of the shelves in the basement storage in the MH for added shelf space.  I also went to work on the bird feeder that got smashed in the spring.  I used the bottom of a five gallon bucket and an old lid off a small storage tub.  I think it will work.  I mounted it a little higher than before and replace the bottom section of pipe that was bent with a 2X2.  So now its ready for some sunflower seed.

Finally time to head into the house.  I grabbed the spackle and patched the holes in the closet and over the kitchen window.

Now it time for a cup of Earl Gray after a quick shower and clean clothes.

Bonnie did sausage on the grill and baked squash for supper it was all delicious.  Now time for a little TV and then off to bed.

Tuesday

Wow where did Tuesday go, I missed updating the blog.  Lets see if I can remember what I did.
I was up and reading blogs when the Dish Network local installer called.  He owns his own company here in town and called to say he had time to look at what we wanted.  I had called him Monday because the cable bill has gotten just too high.  Dish is about half at least for the first year, it would save over 400 busks.  Plus we can use Dish in the MH and they seem to be RV friendly.  So he came by and with the newer satellite we now have a good line of sight.  So we are deciding if we are going to switch and what plan we want.

Then I had to go Vote I was number 48 and I also ended up stopping by court for a couple hours.  Then finally back home for some lunch.

After lunch I went in and sanded the holes and patches I had done in Bonnie's closet.  After she looks it over I will clean it up and then she can paint it.  Then outside to work on the Cyclone Rake.  I drained the gas and changed the oil on it.  Then folded up the bag and stored it in the garage.  Then took the frame and engine unit down to the shed for the winter.  Just enough time to get a shower.

Then it was off toe WW for our weigh in.  Oops up a little.  Then on to Elizabeth's for a nice Antipasto salad for dinner.  Finally home for the night.  TV time and computer time.

Wednesday

Woke early, tried to roll over and sleep some more but got up just as Bonnie left.  Checked the computer and it looks like all my monthly bills are now set up for auto-pay.  Never have done this so it will be interesting giving up control.

Then up and read my email and blogs for a couple hours, also a little TV.

I checked and the trash had not gone left so I gook out a little more stuff including an old large TV, it was too big and heavy for me to lift so I put it in the bucket of the tractor.  That led to me heading up to the upper woods to pull down a couple trees that were hung up.  I ended up getting three down and also dug up three old stumps in the yard.  After I put the tractor away I jumped on the Lawn Tractor.
I went out and cut the grass by the road to warm up the oil.

Then back to the garage and dropped the deck to clean and grease it.  Also changed the blades while I had it off.  Put air in the tires, cleaned the mouse nest off the top of the battery, and cleaned the terminals.

 I also changed the oil and filter and then took it down to the shed.  I hated to do it but it is that time of the year.  I put gas in the snow blower and took it up to its winter spot in the garage.

It was after 4 by now so I went into the house and wiped down the walls in the closet and cleaned the drywall dust off the floor and wood work.  Bonnie had emailed me earlier in the day and asked if we could get her new closet in before I went on vacation.  She wants to paint tonight.  So I got it ready.

And she is in there now painting.

Taking it Easy

Thursday

After being outside most of yesterday I spent most of today working on the computer.  Also washed the towels.  I did make it outside for an hour or so.  I dumped out all the tools from the old craftsman tool box I had in the motorhome and sorted it out.

Bonnie was home before I knew it.  Her and Elizabeth are attending the Woman of Faith Conference up in Rochester tonight thru Saturday.  So I am spending some quality time with Alexus.  I took her to the youth meeting at their church tonight and then I sat in the sanctuary and listened to the praise team practice for Sunday, they lead the music and singing.  It was after 9 when we got home.  Alexus got ready for bed, she gets up at 5:30, wow.  Now its time for the news and then I am headed to bed.

Friday

Lots of running around today.  I got up at 6am and did not here Alexus up, so checked on her, she was awake in her room.  The bus comes at about 6:54, she came downstairs at 6:48 and caught the bus.

I thought the dry cleaners opened up at 9am so I was in East Aurora at 9 but they did not open until 10am.  So I headed up to Charlie's Diner to grab some breakfast.  It was pretty crowded but I heard my name.  It was Paul a former co-worker.  He was alone so I sat down and had some coffee and eggs with him.  Its been 6 years since I retired and he left in 2008 so we had a good time catching up on each other.  Before I knew it it was 10am.

I headed back for the cleaners and ran the CR-V through the car wash which was right next door.  Then I headed for court and was there for a couple of hours.  Alexus just had a half day of school today so I went back to her house and picked her up and we came home to our house.

Its pretty cold out so I did the wash and she listened to her iPod and texted friends.  She tells me she had 8000 texts last month, it was a slow month.  We picked up a pizza and ate half for lunch and half for dinner.  Then we watched Happy Feet together, I wanted to review before Happy Feet 2 comes out in a week or two.  We had a little ice cream half way through.  She watched some youtube on the iPad and then about 9:30 said she was heading to bed.  I did not sleep to well so think I will head there also.

I did get the iPhone and iPad to "AirPrint" to the new wireless printer, all I had to do was upgrade to the newest firmware and it worked.  Well thats about it for tonight.  The woman are doing good in Rochester, they called and I get an occasional test.

Saturday

Looks like it got very cold last night 22 in Attica according to Weatherbug but 30 on the thermometer here at the house.

It turned out to be a nice cool sunny day.  My friend came over and got a truck full of the wood he had cut earlier in the year.  He had borrowed a truck that leaked gas when it was running so we had a strong smell of gas.  Then Alexus and I cleaned the towels and sheets and food out of the MH for the winter.  I washed the sheets and towels and packed them for the winter.

The peppermint smell is nice in the motorhome, sure hope the mice do not like it.  I think the MH is now ready for storage.

The women got home just before 7 and brought Chinese food for supper.  I just had the hot and sour soap. Now a little football and a little TV and then a good nights sleep I hope.

Sunday

Well I got all the clocks turned back last night and we all had a good nights sleep.  Up and at it this morning and off to church.  Bonnie has another busy day planned which makes it a very busy weekend for her.  Today is a baby shower.

I remembered to go out and reset the clock in the emergency generator, so it tests at the right time on Saturday morning.

We have been wanting to change out the big old TV in the MH and yesterday I went out and checked it out.

Need to change this for a new digital TV, that will make one less remote.

Now settling in for an afternoon of football Go Biils! and the NASCAR race from Texas, not sure who I am for there.

Time to Winterize

Monday

I was up before Bonnie left for work today but it stayed cold outside.  I headed out about 10:30 it was up to 41.  Plan is to winterize the MH.  I started to drain the Water Heater and the Fresh Water Tank.

Then I removed the water filter cartridge from under the sink and put in the bypass

Next I blew out all the water lines.

Then add the antifreeze, the safe to drink kind.

Safe to drink but tastes bad

While I was pumping that in I noticed the one way valve that is part of the system to bypass the hot water heater was allowing antifreeze to leak back into the HWH and run out the drain.  Anyone replaced one of those?  More to research and fix.  But the water system is full and protected.

Then when I moved the MH back to its spot I notice the ground pin broke off the adapter cable.

I had two small cord end adapters one was bad and the other is installed and working now.  I am trying Amazon Prime so ordered a new one with free two day shipping.

Now I am rushing to finish this, shower and head to court.

Busy night in court and did not get home till almost 10.  Now its time to get a little something to eat and then head to bed.  Tomorrow is another busy Tuesday.

Tuesday

Lots of running around today.  First the bank and then the post office.  Then a couple hours at court.  Checked the mail when I got home and my box from Gazelle to ship them the old Droid was here.  I packed it up and put on the prepaid mailing label.  Then cleaned the cat box, put the trash in the back of the truck and took it out to the road.  Then down the hill to drop off the package at the post office.  Then back home and finally a little lunch.  The cat heard something and then so did I, it was the big brown truck, with a delivery from Amazon.  According to what I have been reading this should keep the mice away from inside the motorhome and make it smell good also.

I was planning to cut grass but it was too late.  So I loaded the wardrobe into the truck for Elizabeth.

Bonnie was soon home and we headed for WW in East Aurora.  On the way in stopped at Elizabeth's and dropped off the wardrobe.  Then on to WW, yea I lost.  Then over to Tops so Bonnie could shop.  We seniors get an extra 6% off on the first Tuesday of the month.

Finally home and some dinner around 7:30.  Now a couple TV shows and then some sleep.


Wednesday

Wow what a gorgeous day sunny and up to 62.  Perfect day to be outside and outside I was.  First stop was the motorhome to put peppermint oil in the drawers and cabinets.  They say it will keep the mice away so we are trying it.  One plus already, the coach smells like Christmas.  While in the MH I took some pictures of the hot water bypass valve that is allowing antifreeze back into the heater.

On the left side of the valve is where the hot water comes out normally.  Between the gray plastic Tee and the tank is a check valve.  When in bypass the water comes up the blue pipe and right back out the left red pipe and the check valve is supposed to keep it from going into the tank.  It is leaking.  It will not be a problem until next year when I winterize again.  So I will wait until then and try tapping it to see if it is stuck and will maybe seal.  If not an extra gallon of anti freeze once a year is cheaper than replacing the valve.

I almost forgot.  Just before I went outside I got a call from Freightliner in Knoxville and they said just send the invoice for fixing the trailing arms and they will pay it.  I had not heard anything for a week, but am glad that they are willing to pay to fix it.

I jumped on the lawn tractor and cut the grass behind the house.  Then took a break for lunch.  After lunch I hooked up the Cyclone Rake and went to picking up leaves again.

 It was really wet and soft in spots but I was able to pick up all the leaves.  I am hoping this is the last I need to pick up but will leave the Cyclone Rake set up for another week maybe before I put it away.

I had the windows and door open on the MH all day to air it out a little.

At the far end of the picture above this is where the deer like to hang out.  There are so many hoof marks it is almost rough when you drive the tractor over it.

After  putting the rake and mower away I jumped on the big tractor.  I needed to push the leaves over the edge where I dump them.  Then I headed out to smooth the end of the driveway.  I did what I could with the tractor.  Lots of people seem to spin their tires at the end of our driveway.  Then I took the rake out and smoothed it out so it looks good.  Bonnie pulled in as I headed out to rake.

After putting everything away and bring in the recycle bin it was time to go in and relax.  We started to watch what the DVR had recorded but about that time the UPS truck came and brought more Amazon stuff.  We bought a wireless printer that we can also use in the MH and a few other items for around the house.  Then the phone rang and while Bonnie was on the phone and fixing salads for supper, I set up the new printer.  So far it works great, its a small HP laser printer, got it for under $100.

Finally we got back to our recordings and enjoyed our salads.

Thursday

Up this morning with no plans to go anywhere.  I was sitting here reading when I noticed that the rain had partially changed to snow.  It continued to snow most of the day and finally started to stick on the grass.

I continued to work on automating our bill payments today and did some research for my trip to Florida.  Also reserved a car.  My sister and I are headed down there next month for a vacation.  So I have been loading geocaches and tourist info into the computer and iPhone.

I also spent most of the morning writing and editing a letter to Freightliner in Knoxville making them aware of the fact that they installed my trailing arms and brake hose incorrectly and asking them to pay for correcting the problems.

So Bonnie got home and baked squash for supper and then we also had kind of a jello salad with fruit and cottage cheese.  Watched a little TV and hoping to get to bed early, but also wanting to watch the end of the World Series.

Well I did see the game end close to 1am with a walk off home run Game 7 tonight.

Friday

Sunny and cold this morning.  I slept in till 9 as I did not get to sleep until 2am, maybe there is caffeine in coffee ice cream?

Anyway today is wash day and work at court day.  Also I need to double check but I think I have all the bills on auto-pay now.  They still send you a bill so you know what they are taking so it should be good.  When I was stuck in Knoxville in July I worried I was missing some important bills, now that should not happen.

I headed for the shop to check on the MH.  It was up on the lift again and had been inside all night which is good since it was below freezing last night.  It probably would have been ok but better safe than sorry.  Brian went over all the repairs with me from front to back.  It all looks really good, neat, and safe.  They still needed to change one filter, test drive it and re-torque the u-bolts on the axle.

Hopefully I will have it home tomorrow.  Then I will get it winterized and then off to storage.

Then up to court for a couple hours.  The new drywall is up.

We spend the evening catching up on reading and the shows on the DVR.  Watching the end of the world series and then off to bed.  I have more activities on the calendar tomorrow than I can possible do.

Well the Cardinals won and its not quite 11:30 so good night all.

Saturday

Best laid plans do not always work out.

Wet weather today so I will not we cleaning up the leaves in the yard.

Motorhome is not quite ready so will not be picking it up.

Too late to go to church workday when I found out about the motorhome so did what I could online from home.

Went to court and found more to do there than I thought so was there for longer than I thought.

So while I got a lot of stuff done it was not what I expected to get done.

Waiting on Bonnie now to go to Lowe's in Batavia and see if we can find a deal on closet materials to redesign her closet.

So we went to Lowe's what a zoo.  35% off today plus my 10% veterans discount.  It is starting to look cleaned out but there is still a lot of stuff there.  We were able to find all the parts we needed except for the main tower.  There was one on display and it was not screwed to the wall.  Bonnie had to ask three different guys, the first two said they were not selling the displays,  but the third guy helped me get it down and put it on a cart.  We took it all up front just as the store was closing and they checked out right out.  So now I have a closet system to install.  Of course that means taking down the old wire shelves, patching the holes, and painting the walls.

So back home and finally ate supper after 8 but it sure was good.  It was wet all day but no measurable rain.  Now its time to head off for bed.  The key word today was flexibility.

Sunday

We were up while its was still dark getting ready for church.  Then off to church, another frosty morning.
After church we headed down to the Prospector for a late breakfast with some friends from Church.
They eat there often and the cook brought out cupcakes for the kids.

Then we left there and went over to their house to visit and see their beautiful new kitchen, very nice.  We had a great visit and left there shortly after 2pm.

Next stop was over to the Pastor's house for their annual open house.  We have sold the Parsonage and he now has his own house.  I got the grand tour and was impressed with all the work and changes they have made, its a beautiful home now and great for entertaining.  There must have been over 40 people and still room to move around.

Then we headed home pulling in just before 4pm.  Bonnie was listening to the messages as I walked in and Brian left a message saying the MotorHome was all done and we should give him a call.  So I quick gave him a call and he said I could pick it up or he would put it in the shop again tonight.  Since we are busy again this week and it is not to freeze tonight I said we would be right over to pick it up.  He said don't worry about the bill he will get it to me sometime.  So we jumped back in the car and headed over to the shop.  She started right up and we pulled into the yard before 4:30, with everything fixed and a new inspection sticker on the bumper.

We were home in time to see the Bills win and Tony Steward win the NASCAR race.  Finished up the DVR recording and still time to relax a little before bed.

Its good to look out and see Our House on Wheels sitting in the driveway.  Hope to get it all winterized this week.

Last Week of October---Trailing Arm issues resurface

Monday

Well I got up this morning with every intention of cutting grass, but the rain soon put the brakes on that.  I hadn't even finished breakfast by the time it started to rain. So I'm catching up on the some blogs and podcasts and watching a little TV before I head up to court.  (I am using dragon dictation on the iPhone to write this section).


Well it stayed wet all day.  I went out in the back yard to try to catch a picture of how wet it was and things started to move.  I did not see the deer until they moved, they blend into the leaves almost perfectly.  They never did run away guess they are getting used to me.

Tuesday

Well since I needed to get out of the house early this morning my internal alarm clock mal functioned and I did not wake until after 8, but my feet were on the floor seconds after I look at the clock.  I got breakfast and dressed and was out the door shortly after 9, with my second cup of coffee in hand.

First stop was the bank where I deposited the courts money.  Then headed across the street to my bank to make another deposit.

Second stop was at the dry cleaners to get my court robe cleaned.

Third stop was at the Dr's office for a routine check up.  Got a text and a phone call before I got out of the truck and took care of some court business.  Dr was happy with my weight loss and said my lab numbers are unbelievably good and my BP 122/70.  Next visit in February for an annual physical.

Fourth stop was at the EA Wireless store to pick up a case for my iPhone, I had a 50% off coupon that the owner had given me last week.

Fifth stop was at the Post Office to mail some certified mail for court.

Headed for Batavia and the NARFE meeting, looks like I will be a little late.  Made it about 10 minutes late everyone has already ordered lunch.  Someone went and found the waitress and I put my order in.  Lunch was good as it usually is.  I was also scheduled to speak today so I was ready to do that.  There was also a second speaker from the office for the aging.  So I deferred to her and she spoke for about 20 minutes on their programs.  My turn.  I had attended a seminar on Medicare back in June and this was the first opportunity I had to report on what I had learned.  It went well.  There were lots of questions and I think I was able to answer them all.  Wow its already 2:30.  Headed home finally.

Sixth stop, home.  Collected the trash, cleaned the cat box, and took it all out to the road.  Turned on computer to catch up on email.  Bonnie soon came home and we got ready to head to WW.  I loaded up a book case into the Honda to take to Alexus.

Seventh stop WW, we both lost some this week, yea a good week.

Eighth stop Subway for $5 foot longs for Elizabeth, Alexus, and us.  Elizabeth usually cooks for us on Tuesdays so once in a while we take something for supper.

Ninth stop, Elizabeth's.  Dropped off the bookcase and we all ate our subs.  I talked to Brian about the MH and need to stop over in the morning with information on the brakes so he can order parts.

Finally home and some time to catch up on reading the blogs I follow and write this post.  Its raining hard enough that I can hear it.

Wednesday

Up a little later than normal this morning but out the door a little after 9.  I needed to be over at the shop to look at the MH and see what needed to be done.  They had seen some things they did not like during the inspection.  One that needs taken care of concerns the trailing arms.  The u-bolts that hold the axle on looked funny according to Brian.  Brian had left to look at a bus when I got there but I met his dad Bill and we looked at the brakes, the damaged brake hose, the exhaust and the u-bolts.

Indeed the u-bolts did not look seated properly.  I called Holiday Rambler tech support and they emailed me the specs and directions.  Sure enough the bottom wedge plate is installed backwards and it clearly states how to install them.  $110 bucks an hour labor rate in Knoxville and the technician can not read and follow directions.  Here are a few pictures of the issue.

Hard to see but the wedge shape piece above the bolts should have the wide
part of the wedge toward the front of the MH.  If you zoom in you can see that
the nuts are not flat against the plate and the u-bolt does not touch the top of the axle.
Also the bolts were cut off with a torch, making it tough to get the nuts off.

Same problem on the other side

See the white on the edge of the rim the hose was rubbing here and is almost warn through.
So it needs to be replaced.

So I heard late this afternoon that some of the parts came in and Brian hopes to put them on early tomorrow like between midnight and dawn.

Then I headed up to court, they are repairing the walls from when there was a leak.  New studs, insulation, and drywall.

The plastic is keeping things pretty clean.

So by this time tomorrow we will know if we get the first snow of the season.  The iPhone 4s is still working flawlessly and about half of these pictures were taken with it.
